{"id":46340,"date":"2024-09-18T14:28:29","date_gmt":"2024-09-18T14:28:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ocean.edu\/?post_type=programs&#038;p=46340"},"modified":"2025-10-09T08:44:29","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T12:44:29","slug":"nursing","status":"publish","type":"programs","link":"https:\/\/www.ocean.edu\/programs-courses\/degrees-certificates\/nursing\/","title":{"rendered":"Nursing Programs &amp; Curriculum"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"alignwide has-text-align-wide is-style-intro\"><strong>The Nursing Program was established at OCC in 1966 and has been noted for its excellence in nursing education and student learning.<\/strong>&nbsp;There are eleven full-time faculty, two full-time lab staff as well as part-time clinical instructors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns alignwide is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-1 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The Nursing Program has different opportunities to obtain an Associate Degree (AAS) in Nursing leading to the RN:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocean.edu\/programs-courses\/school-of-nursing-and-health-sciences\/admission-to-the-traditional-nursing-program\/\" title=\"Admission to the Traditional Nursing Program\">Traditional Nursing Program<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;admits 90 students for the Fall and 90 for the Spring semesters. Students may choose day or evening lectures which are held two days per week. Clinicals, which are assigned by the nursing office, are usually 1 day per week 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (can be subject to change). There are no evening or weekend clinicals. To meet clinical objectives, clinical experiences can be spread throughout southern NJ (*see information below about clinicals). Students time must be flexible to allow for practicums and testing. Although it is not a requirement, it is recommended that students do not work full time.&nbsp; Students must show Ocean County residency.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocean.edu\/programs-courses\/degrees-certificates\/on-site-online-nursing-program\/\" title=\"On-Site Online Nursing Program\"><strong>On-Site Online Nursing Program<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is a unique full-time selective\u00a0program that is designed for students who attend class face-to-face one day or more per week\u00a0with the balance delivered online. Great for those who are working (part time is recommended) or have significant family responsibilities, however, the program is rigorous and requires discipline on the part of the student to study on the subsequent days. Healthcare experience is a requirement.\u00a0 Students are admitted to the Fall semester only and are selected by a committee. (*see information below regarding clinicals). Students who previously applied but were not accepted must re-apply every semester.\u00a0 You do not have to be an Ocean County resident.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocean.edu\/programs-courses\/school-of-nursing-and-health-sciences\/career-mobility-nursing-program-admission\/\" title=\"Career Mobility Nursing Program Admission\"><strong>Career Mobility Nursing Program<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is an alternative program for qualified, practicing LPN\u2019s (must show Ocean County residency). This is a selective program that will admit qualified candidates to Nursing 2 (usually on site on line in the Spring semester.) after testing\u00a0out of Nursing 1 is achieved. \u00a0<strong>All nursing general education requirements and a passing TEAS score must be completed before applying for Career Mobility<\/strong>\u00a0(see admissions to nursing page and open link for list). This includes students with a previous degree. Although it is not a requirement, it is recommended that students do not work full time.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignwide accordion__item has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignwide accordion__preview has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button accordion__toggle\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-text-align-left wp-element-button\">Clinical Nursing Medical Clearance Requirements<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignwide accordion__content has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns alignwide is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-2 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"alignwide has-text-align-wide\">The Ocean County College Nursing Program utilizes local healthcare facilities in order to deliver the clinical component of training.&nbsp; We are guests in those facilities and must adhere to the rules they provide to us, including requirements regarding student medical clearance.&nbsp; These requirements are typically the same as what they require of their own employees who have hands-on contact with patients.&nbsp; Currently, that includes:<em>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Physical exam<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) within the last 10 years<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>QuantiFeron <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CBC (complete blood count)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Urinalysis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Annual Flu vaccine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Covid-19 vaccination date.&nbsp; [*At this time, the clinical facilities are not requiring a covid vaccine.
