The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 is a United States federal law that governs the access to educational information and records.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

An eligible student means a student who has reached 18 years of age or is attending a college at any age. An eligible student is a student who is currently attending Ocean County College or has previously attended Ocean County College. FERPA does not protect applicants of OCC who have not yet enrolled.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Under FERPA, a parent or eligible student must provide signed and dated, written consent in order for the school to disclose personally identifiable information from the student\u2019s education records. Education records include, but are not limited to: demographic information, admission records, financial records, class schedules and grades.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A student can designate an individual as their proxy to have access to select pages in Ocean Connect: Self-Service. View instructions here.<\/a> This does not replace the written consent that must be given by a student in order for the college to release information to a parent or designated proxy. Directory Information<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Can information be shared without permission? <\/strong>An OCC office may release personally identifiable \u201cdirectory information\u201d from a student\u2019s education record without first obtaining the student\u2019s written permission, unless the student has requested this information remain confidential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
